Saga Loot System Explained

PR=EP/GPWith the loot system Saga uses, you earn Effort Points (EP) for attending raids and Gear Points (GP) for the upgrades you receive from them, and the ratio of your EP to GP determines your Priority for loot in the future (PR=EP/GP). If you follow the math, someone who has more EP over less GP (conceptualized as "High Effort In, Low Gear Out") will have higher priority (PR) than someone who has the opposite ("Low Effort In, High Gear Out"). Most people will fall somewhere in between, but calculating PR in this manner will allow us to put an actual -- and meaningful -- number on their contributions to (and deductions from) the guild.

When an item drops

All raids will be run on Master Loot. When a new piece of gear drops, the Raid Leader will announce an auction. Each raid member can make their wish known by whispering these commands to the Master Looter:

Command
#bid Sets your bid to Bid. Only allowed for MAIN characters for their MAIN role.
#need Sets your bid to Need. Available for MAIN characters for their Off-spec, or
ALTS and CASUALS for their main-spec.
#greed You do not want the item, other than for money. This is the default bid.
If no one bids other than this, the item is disenchanted, and the kibbles
goes to the Saga guild bank.
#cancel Cancels any setting for the current item, sets you to "greed".

Still not sure if you may Bid on an item? It's quite easy, only if you are a raider and in need of the item for your main-spec may you select Bid.

Raider Bid Need
Alt/Casual Need Need

When the bidding is closed, the Master Looter will consult the list of bidders. Bid goes before Need, and the Bidder with the highest PR gets the item, and the item value is added to his GP. If you win an item from a Need bid, only 25% of the item value is added.

Decay

To prevent the equivalent of DKP-hoarding, and to give newer raiders a chance to catch up to their more seasoned counterparts, EP and GP will decay at the rate of 10% per week. Because EPGP is ratio-based, this decay will not impact your PR, but will only reduce the numbers behind it to equalize the system over time.

EP GP PR
Original pools
1600 1000 1.6
After 1 round of decay 1440 900 1.6
After 2 rounds of decay 1296 810 1.6

Rewards

Effort Points are rewarded to all participating members of a raid. They can also be awarded to people on a waiting list (people that signed up for the raid, but didn't get an initial spot, yet were online and available as replacements if needed). Every 30 minutes from the moment the Raid Leader calls the raid start all members of the raid recieve 50 EP. At the guild officers' discretion, raiders may be rewarded for outstanding efforts to support the raid, such as spending an entire weekend farming for reagents to use in the flasks for the entire raid.

The main part of your EP's will come from downing bosses in the instances we visit.

Calculating an item's value

Example of Quick FactsUsing this form, you can calculate how much any item will add to your GP when you get it.

To find the value, you can go two ways. Either you get ItemLevelDKP and watch it automagically add the item value in the item tooltip, or start by finding the item on www.wowhead.com and look at the frame of Quick Facts in the upper right corner. The value you seek is the Level of the item. Write the item level in the text box below and make sure the radio buttons are set to match the item's quality and slot and click the Submit button. Voilá! Gear Points! This is the amount that'll get added to your total GP when you recieve the item. If you get the item from a Greed-bid, only 25% of the value is added.
